  1. I am looking for an inexpensive beginner road bike. Do you guys have any used or any inexpensive road bikes around $200?

    • We have a pretty wide variety of pedals; from clip in to basic platform pedals. Come on by the shop and take a look 2500 S. MacArthur Blvd. We are open Monday-Friday from 9-8, Saturday from 9-4 and Sunday from 11-3.

  2. Do you happen to have a specialized dolce sport compact? I’m looking for a road bike in the $800 to $1000 range. I’m still looking around but that is one I’ve been considering but haven’t found anywhere that has one in the store I can try out. Would love to see how it feels.

Also, any tips on where to sell my old bike. 2001 Fuji newest. Old clearly, but still in decent shape.

    • We are no longer a Specialized dealer; but we do carry the Giant Avail and LaPierre (road bikes) that would be in that price range. Both are in stock and ready for your to come in and take for a test ride 🙂

As far as Fuji, I would encourage you to bring it in and let us take a look at it; we could do a trade in towards the purchase of a new bike.

    • No GT, but we do carry Giant, Specialized (only a few left), XLC, Black Ops, Lizard Skins, Origin 8 and Oury Grips (to name a few)-prices vary and start at around $7.95

    • We do not sell FIT Bike Co…we are currently stocking Giant, Redline, GT, La Pierre, Schwinn, Specialized and Torker. We carry a variety of brands when it comes to parts and tools, apparel and nutritional items.

  3. I will be in Springfield over the 4th and am looking for possible routes in the New Berlin area or if there will be group rides over the weekend

    • Off the top of my head, probably not something that we would have in stock. That being said; we might be able to get one in. I would suggest calling the shop 217-523-0188, talk to Rich, he is our shop manager and e bike expert.

  4. I have a schwinn landmark I was wondering if you have a rear rack to fit it using the factory mount above the rear brake

    • We have several different “makes and models” of rear racks that could be put on. I would suggest bringing the bike by the shop, from there we can match-up the rack that would be the best fit to your bike.

  5. Gf’s daughter has been riding a 20″ bike but it is getting close to too small. Her mom rides a 24″ which is too big for the daughter. Do you seel bikes between there for children?

    • Jake,

That’s a tough one to answer via the web, since I don’t know how tall she is. The quick answer is we do carry kids bikes. Your best bet is to come in and see what we currently have in stock for kid’s bikes.

Depending on her height and age we could even move to a Women’s XS; which should fit a height range of 5’2″ to 5’4″.

According to some on-line resources if she is 7 + years old and between 56″-62″ tall then she should be able to move into a 24″ inch “geared” bike

I would tell you is that regardless of the tire size a few things to look at The rider should be able to dismount and comfortably straddle the bike flat footedly. And then with a slight lean of the bike, get their bottom back onto the seat, put their foot on the pedal and, when the skill is there, ride away. They shouldn’t be riding scrunched up with their knees hitting the handlebars and they shouldn’t be stretched out and unable to turn the handlebars easily.

I hope that answers your questions, feel free to come by the shop and have her ride a couple.

    • Depends on how busy we are with other repairs. Most repairs can be done overnight.

Now that being said, if you drop it off in the morning (again depending on how busy we are) there is a good chance that it could be done that afternoon/evening. Tubes run $5.98 and would be $10.00 to install.

    • The minimum age to work in Illinois is 14, but at that age the number of hours you are allowed to work is very limited: No more than 3 hours per day, and your total of work and school cannot be more than 8 hours. So, if you have school for 6 hours per day (like 9:00-3:00), you can’t work more than 2 hours.

    • Hard to say without being able to see the bike. I would suggest bringing it by the shop and having the staff look over the bike and give you an estimate. We are open Mon-Fri from 9-6.

  6. I have a used 21.5 L mens Giant Yukon se. Aluxx 6061 butted aluminum. Jett rock shox. Shimano v-brakes. 8 seed. I was bought from your shop. I’m looking to sell it but wasn’t sure where would be my best option?? Do you buy back bikes?

    • We don’t purchase bikes out right, we only take in used bikes as a trade-in towards the purchase of a new bike. Depending on how much you want for it and the condition of the bike we could try and sell it for you on consignment; our fee would be 20% of the final sales price. Feel free to contact the shop for more details.

  7. Hi I am wandering if you guys have any three wheel bikes in stock? Please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks.

    • Yes we do, we have several to choose from. Stop by the shop and take a look, I’d recommend bringing in the bike or at least the wheel so that it can be matched as close as possible.

  8. Following up on your comment concerning beginner road bikes. I’m in the market for something (used isn’t a problem!) for $300 or less.

    • That will be a tough order to fill. It seems that one of the “trends” is that most owners of older road bikes will hang on to it and just upgrade to a newer model. Using the older bike on a trainer or as a “beater” bike and using the newer model as a race bike. We MIGHT have an older model “ten speed” in stock…I’d have to double check that though.

Were you positive that a road bike was what you were looking for? If not you might consider a performance hybrid. It has skinnier tires and gets you into a partial aerodynamic position. These bikes are usually a lot lighter than a mountain bike or a comfort hybrid. We could put you on a brand new one for around $399.

  9. I have a giant mtb and was wondering how much I could get for it, it has a ripped grip but that’s all that’s wrong

    • I don’t think we have any new kids road bikes in stock currently. I think you will be hard pressed to find a kid’s road bike since it is such a “niche” item. I also think that these are swept up quickly, when they do come in.

Two things to remember: 1) Almost all these bikes are made with quality components and the frames and are simply smaller versions of many of the adult road bikes. 2) These little bikes will really hold their value when the time comes to sell!

Based on that height, though we might be able to get you on an XS or S Giant Road Bike. Again, I’d have to say stop by the shop and take a look at what we have got in stock as our used inventory changes often.

    • We have one in stock currently, that has just come in, “The Whizzer” and it has been generating a lot of interest.
It is a 26″ standard adult bicycle. Specs: Overall length – 73″; Wheel base – 44.5″; Width – 29″ (at handlebars); Height – 46″ (at handlebars); Seat Height – 33.5″ (lowest); Dry Weight – 97 lbs.; Gross Vehicle wt. – 360lbs.

      It is priced at $1400.00

  10. Hello. I am looking for an “old lady bike”. Just to ride on flat country roads. Smooth and comfortable. No gears….I believe the terminology in “cruiser”. Got any?
    Thank you

    • Good morning!

I know that we carry a rack that fits Jeep’s, but I don’t know if it holds 3 bikes…The shop is closed today (Sunday) so call us on Monday and we will check 217-523-0188. Thanks!

  11. Do you sell used bikes? we are looking for a boys 16 in bike. Also my son’s bike got ran over with a car and the frame is a little bent. do you know ballpark figure what it might cost to fix something like that? it was a garage sale find but I feel like it is in great condition and hate to spend more than it would cost to buy new. Is someone there all the time that could look at it to give us an estimate on the repair cost also? Thank you!!

    • Yes, we do sell used bikes, I was in the shop Saturday and we had a couple of used boys bikes in stock. The frame might be hard to fix, really, we would have to take a look at it to be sure. We always have someone on staff that could give you an estimate of repairs. If we do any repairs, it will be ready to go the next day.

  12. I’m 5’5 and looking for a road – dirt road bike do u have any on clearance? Can u ship to Michigan?

  13. Do you guys do trade ins if so I have a trek road bike it cost 1200 a few years ago I would like to trade it for a mountain bike let me know

    • We do take trade-ins towards the purchase of a new bike…I was just there looking over the mountain bikes and there are several super cool models. Stop on by and take one for a test ride.

  14. Do ya still take trade ins? Also do ya have electric bikes? If so, how much does it cost?

    • Yes we accept trade-ins towards the purchase of a new bicycle. We do not have any electric bikes in stock. We can order them in, prices very so call the shop at 217-523-0188 for more details.

  15. I made the mistake of buying a bike (I thought it was an unpassable deal) at walmart. It makes all kinds of noises from squeaky brakes to what sounds like a rickety body frame, you can hear it when you get on and off most of the time or when you pedal faster. Do I have to make an appointment ( for two bikes) ? And about how long does it take to determine whether it will be a one day fix or more.

    • I’m sorry you are having problems with the bikes. No appointment necessary, just bring the bikes to the shop and we will give you an on the spot estimate. Most repairs will be next day (unless we need to order parts). On-line diagnosis is challenging at best. You might start out with the basic tune-up and then go from there. Basic tune up covers all minor adjustments, adjust the front and rear breaks, the front and rear gears, and lube the chain. This will run you $40.95. But have the guys at the shop take a look there maybe something more going on with the bikes.

  16. How much would it cost for a “yearly check up”? I bought my bike in march of last year and came in to get the free one month check up. But how much would it be for you guys to go through and retighten the chain and brakes and everything?

  17. Hi, I’m looking for a good starter street bike and I was wondering what you recommend or what you have, not too expensive…
