Who We Are

At Ace Bike Shop, we strive to provide the best service and stock of bicycles and parts for most brands of bikes. Our knowledgeable staff have serviced larger pedal powered people movers all the way to electric scooters and bikes.

We have provided quality bikes, products and service since, Thomas “Ace” Meeker  started the business in 1957 on the corner of 18th Street and Brown in Springfield, IL.

In the 1960’s Tom moved the shop to South Holmes Avenue and the business thrived during the 70’s and 80’s . IMG_1496

Tom’s son, Pete took over the shop in 1999. In 2004, after over 30 years at the South Holmes location Pete moved the shop to its current location (and much larger building) at 2500 S. MacArthur.

We carry a variety of parts, tools, apparel and nutritional items.

We provide bike repair services on all makes and models, from tune ups to custom bike builds. If your bike needs new brakes or a bottom bracket installed, trust the experts to do it right and keep your bicycle in top condition.

  1. I just moved up to a used but “clean” road bike, Giant OCRc1 full carbon, from a Marin Kentfield Hybrid. I immediately jumped from an 11-12 mph av to 13-14 mph av the first day out with it. I’m sure I can get better. Maybe a little coaching on technique might even help,…I always ride alone and have to figure things out for myself. So I don’t know if I would fit into that 15-18 pace of the Monday evening ride, but I might be interested in finding out. When? Where? Mondays I get off work at 4:30 in Decatur so I’d hit Springfield around 5:15 or so.

    • Phillip, we would love to have you ride with us on Monday’s. We are not doing this to race, just for fun. We start out leaving the bike shop promptly at 5:30. We start out as a group until we reach the trail, then we encourage people to ride at their comfortable pace. Your 13-14 mph is going to be a lot easier riding with others. We do have some guys that move at a faster pace and some that are just starting to ride just like yourself. Like I said we would love to have you join us.

  2. I am an A/B rider visiting the area in another week. Looking for contacts for any group reasonably paced rides that go out weekday mornings. I have business in Springfield, starting at 10:00 on next Friday Sept 6th, so am looking for a 20-30 mile ride. Thanks
